Peter Jones Club President
President: Peter Jones

Founder member Pete has been paddling since 1951.

A founder member of the BCU Placid Water Coaching Scheme he is a Level 3 coach with a particular interest in encouraging young paddlers to flat water competition especially marathon, and runs our enthusiastic Junior Training Group.

He co-ordinates the BCU Marathon Racing Committee's Geoff Sanders Inter-Club Trophy for under 12s.

Geoff Barber
Chairman: Geoff Barber
Vehicle design engineer Geoff is a very enthusiastic paddler who enjoys competing in marathon K2 races. He can be seen most Saturday afternoons introducing new paddlers to the sport of Kayaking.

Qualifications: Level 1 Placid Water Coach: Racing, Aquatic First Aid

Orlando Elmhirst: Vice Chair Solihull Canoe Club
Vice Chairman: Orlando Elmhirst
Orlando is a Level 1 Placid Water Coach. He was a somewhat late arrival to canoeing and only took up the sport in 2004 when in his late 40's. He regularly coaches the Junior Training Group and generally participates in K2 Hasler Marathon races.

In 2009 he and Geoff completed the 125 mile Devizes-Westminster Race in under 24hrs (which surprised them both!). Away from the club Orlando is a Forensic Scientist.

David Rimmington: Secretary Solihull Canoe Club
Secretary: David Rimington
David is a keen paddler and marathon racer

He is the administrative backbone of the club and ensures that we meet the relevant standards as a registered charity. David has been responsible for obtaining significant grants to fund the club.



Nicki Bache: Treasurer
Treasurer: Nicki Bache
Nicki has been club treasurer for 3 years and is a keen leisure paddler.


Jon Upton
Webmaster: Jon Upton
Jon has been involved with the club for many years originally his daughter was a keen paddler but she has now grown up and moved on to other things. Jon designed this website so that any member of the committee can alter it and he is a Committee member.

Qualifications: Sports Coach UK - Good Practice and Child Protection Certificate

Andy Cook: Head Coach
Head Coach: Andy Cooke
Andy is an very knowledgeable paddler with tens of thousands of paddling miles experience and long history of wilderness, expedition and white water paddling. He is a keen marathon racer and has competed in numerous ultra distance events.  Andy is a Committee member.

Qualifications: Level 4 Coach Canoe & Level 3* Coach Kayak
A4 Assessor (can assess up to level 3 coach)

John Allen Child Protection Officer
Child Protection Officer: John Allen

John has worked in education both as a teacher and manager for over 20 years. In addition to being a qualified PE teacher he also has experience in coaching across a range of sports. John has extensive experience in working to create safe and secure environments, including child protection.

 

Ian Taylor: Coach
Coach: Ian Taylor
Former Scout leader Ian supports the Junior Training Group every Saturday morning. Ian is a Committee member.

Qualifications: Level 2 Coach, Aquatic First Aid

Ann Jones: Solihull Canoe Club Coach
Coach: Ann Jones
Ann Jones is a dedicated member of the coaching team and former marathon racer. She can be seen most Saturday mornings supporting the Junior Training Group.

Qualifications: Level 1 Placid Water Coach, Aquatic First Aid

Mark Bache: Coach
Coach: Mark Bache
Mark is a level 1 coach and enjoys river paddling and touring when he gets the chance. Mark is a Committee member.

Qualifications: Level 1 Placid Water Coach, Aquatic First Aid. 


Welfare Officer: Claire Ashton
Claire is the appointed Welfare Officer for the club and, as such, sits on the Committee.



Lou-ser: Team Mascot
Team Mascot: Lou-ser
Lou-ser is an extremely rare South Warwickshire District Council Squirrel Hound and an enthusiastic supporter of the sport. She loves to run along the canal tow path following the paddlers during training, and has been known to run over 20 miles whilst supporting the keener members of the club.

Qualifications: Bronze Obedience Training
